Book arts are one of my favorite crafty activities. I enjoy making books for gifts. I also enjoy the simple structure of books and their usefulness. I came to book arts in an unsual way. When I taught school, years ago, I was a reading specialist. I help students who were having a difficult time learning to read. I used a "language experience" method of teaching reading, in which the students dictated stories to me. We used their stories to learn the printed word. During that process we made books of their stories...lots of books. I was always looking for interesting ways to create books to keep the kids interested and excited about learning to read. When a child would hold their own handmade book in their hands their eyes would light up and they could not wait to read their story. Their motivation and success with this method was outstanding. So I became a book "artist" long before it became a topic on the book shelves of your local book store. I no longer teach school, but have such appreciation for this art form.
I have taught this book form in several classes. I am thinking of making a pdf tutorial available. Are you interested?
